Say hi to our research group
Welcome to the Kenneth Wärnmark research group! The KW-group in short, where we warmly welcome everyone who are interested in chemistry.
Kenneth Wärnmark
Professor
Kenneth is a Professor of Organic Chemistry at Lund University who expertize in organic synthesis & physical organic chemistry, where he has successfully designed and synthesized multiple molecules applicable in organic-, inorganic-, general chemistry, and catalysis. With main focus on complex synthetic design in supramolecules (e.g. molecular recognition) and iron complexes acting as photosensitizers, has he been active with organic chemsitry for over three decades.
Background
Kenneth obtained his Ph.D in 1994 (under the supervision of Prof. Christina Moberg at KTH) in organic chemsitry (synthesis and catalysis), and completed his postdoc in 1996 (under the supervision Prof. Jean-Marie Lehn at University of Strasbourg) in the topic of metal complex supramolecular chemistry and its photochemical applications.
In 1996 Kenneth began his independent research as an assistant professor in organic chemsitry at Lund, where his group focused on developing the synthetic chemistry of the necessary building blocks used in molecular self-assembly and recognition. In 1999 he took the position of a senior lecturer in organic chemistry at Lund and officially obtained the title of Professor in organic chemsitry in 2010.
Kenneth has recieved several honors and awards for his research, to mention a few:
• Lidbomska belöningen. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (KVA) (2011)
• Edlunska priset from Kungl. Vetenskapsakademien (2017)
• Ulla and Stig Holmquist Prize in Organic Chemistry (2022)
In Kenneth’s group, broad research areas are tackled which are mainly in the fields of: materials synthesis, supramolecular chemistry, coordination chemistry, molecular thermoelectricity, photophysics and photochemistry.
